i know this isn’t necessarily music related but i just can’t stop thinking about how fucking cool The White Stripes album covers and advertisements were. using the exact same color pallets over and over for a number of years is a really interesting concept to me, and these guys are one of the best examples of doing it right!

Their inexperience seems to rear its ugly head at times. The tracklist is overstuffed, the performances are at times overly basic or dry and its structure is quite messy, but even with all that, it's pretty fun, if a flawed experience. Their talent is undeniable even at this very early stage. It's rough, but Jack's knack for captivating, yet simple guitar work and memorable songwriting is in effect here. A teeth-knashing debut record that really exemplifies how much can be done with little. Jack on guitar and vocals, Meg on drums, the two create a stellar duo dynamic that immediately stands out as some of the best possible sound you can get out of straight forward garage rock. Jack White is easily one of the most creative minds of our time, and that immediately shines out on this debut record. Not a bad album at all, but it is a bit rough around the edges. Also, a lot of this album just sounds the same, leading to my memory of this album being a blur.
