This is an all too rare pop record with intentions far beyond the drab recreation of vintage '60s moments.

Placebo may sound like a mix between the Smashing Pumpkins and Rush -- and the levels of melodrama on the album may stretch far beyond most people's tolerance -- but it's well-written and performs enough variations on those genres to keep it interesting.
Placebo is a fucking great band, and make no mistake that their debut album is one of the finest alternative rock albums of the nineties, it really, really is. “Teenage Angst,” “36 Degrees,” Nancy Boy,” and “Bruise Pristine” are my fucking jams. Love this album
I just can't get enough of this album. Maybe it just appeals to my teenage angst (FUNNY PUN), but this debut has become one of the most essential albums to my listening experience. Luv this thing <3
Placebo's full length debut is one of the key albums that defines why the 90's remains my favourite era for music. Dealing with issues of drug abuse, gender non-conforming, depression, sexuality and essentially every taboo subject you can imagine, and combining it with a blend of grunge and noise rock, they deliver one of the most important alternative brit-pop albums of its time. Cannot get enough of this record <3
