The soundtrack of the darkest time in my life. Moody, heart breaking, yet comforting at the same time.

I've realized that I didn't rate any of the Daughter albums before so here we go. I already forgot how much I love Elena's voice, it's so soothing and relaxing. Instrumentation on here isn't anything special that you haven't heard before but it fits perfectly with her vocal performance. There are many decent-to-good songs on the project but Winter, Youth and Human are by far my favourites. Thanks to Life is Strange: Before the Storm for introducing me to this band.

If You Leave is an excellent debut album from Daughter as it showcases all of the groups greatest strengths. The most obvious thing to me that the band does so well is their ability to create a good atmosphere. The tracks all sound equally as good as each other, making it a very cohesive listening experience. Lots of the tracks are really catchy and it's an album that makes sure it leaves an impression. My only gripe is that I wish it took so more risks so we could get more really great tracks ... read more

Despite this record not being all that unique. The emotional potency and power that is presented in the vocals and melancholy climaxes give this record a charm that helps it somewhat stick out despite its semi-generic production at some points.

Best songs: Winter, Still, Lifeforms, Human, Touch, Shallows

Meh songs: Smother, Youth, Tomorrow, Amsterdam

- day 2 of relistening to Daughter's released LPs in preparation for Stereo Mind Game -

Okay, I don't have nearly as much to say about this one so I'll try and make this brief. I really enjoy this album! I think this is prime Daughter.

The instrumentation here is a lot lusher and, I suppose, youthful than that of Not to Disappear and I think it makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

That being said, I don't think it's perfect, as there are still some things that could've been improved ... read more

If you leave have some of the best gems in modern indie pop (winter and youth are so good, still is great too and the other tracks are solid to great). If only it didn't lack some nuances ...

This album is beautiful. It gives you hope whilst giving you your emotions are rough time. The vocals are amazing and touching, the instrumentals compliment the vocals amazing and reflects the moody style amazing. Daughter is one of those bands which I am always excited for now since their last 2 albums

I believe that the main thing holding this project back is Elenas writing and vocals. Her vocals are super one dimensional, and i've heard other singers with her voice a million times before. Her voice obviously isn't her fault, however, she does nothing to make her voice stand out, which i think you should when your voice is that generic. Her lyrics are at times so uncreative it hurts. "Drifting apart like two sheets of ice" & "I want him but we're not right" are just ... read more

7+, Daughter's made my fav indie rock album of all time: "Not to Disappear", and although I truly enjoy this, it gets hard for me not to consider it kinda repetitive and monotonous... It's a huge flaw honestly but anyway, the music stills good, and it just makes me happy to know they overcame themselves with their sophomore album after this one.

Fav tracks:
- Human
- Shallows
- Youth
- Amsterdam

Least faves:
- Winter
- Touch
- Still
- Tomorrow

Perhaps I'm just unempathetic but this gets a big fat "meh" from me. Technically competent but exceedingly lacking in any interesting, worthwhile elements.

There will be albums what are once in a lifetime experience, giving you something what you'll never feel again. And I don't mean it depressing way, many albums in future will make you feel sadness, happiness. But not in totally exact, same way as something once did. And Daughter's "If You Leave", is one of these albums. It's practically perfect collection of stories about hopeless loving, utterly painfull heartbreak and terrifying sadness what feels like eternity. I don't know how ... read more

how does one describe their attachment to daughter without just saying "it's so me"? i never sought out music that would comfort me, but i was always on the lookout for music that would spell whatever feelings i had out, and finding daughter as most definitely the saddest teenager to ever exist probably set my tastes in music and literature on the course i still am on to this day.

i find immense comfort in how little of it the cold, detached and dreamy, almost droning tunes of if you ... read more

so dreamy, soft, and lovely!! always transports me to a forest at dawn, its grass damp from dew and trees cloaked by fog. very atmospherical. the sound gets a bit repetitive and predictable towards the end, but i'm not too bothered by it

IMO it's just good, not great. The lyrics just don't really do it for me, I think it would be too dismissive to call them pretentious but I definitely would call them idyllic, atleast it doesn't come of as commercial though. I also find a lot of the songs to be very formuliac instrumentally. Does get some points for sounding really pretty, and if I look past the issues described above it's a nice dream pop album.
