"Radio is blasting, TURN THAT SHIT UP" is the best line that sums up this entire debut album by what I'd say is the best band of the 80's. The shit sound quality, the engineer constantly saying "tape is rolling" provides such a sloppy feel to such a sloppy band, and I mean that in all the best ways. Of course The Replacements would go on to branch away from the punk rock genre, later pioneering the alt-rock genre blending post-punk with hard-rock, but this record is up there ... read more

Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash is perhaps the most direct and pulsating record of The Replacements whole catalog. Often thought of as a punk rock outfit, this is likely the album that fit them into that moniker entirely. Their debut quickly made a statement for what kind of music you might expect from the young upstarts, even if they rarely revisited the hardcore punk sound for the rest of their careers.

Sorry Ma Forgot To Take Out The Trash is decent hardcore punk and punk rock but it's not that interesting and fairly basic for the genre.


This is the first Replacements album I’ve listened to, although definitely not the last given the quality of this album and the acclaim for their by all accounts less uncompromising subsequent albums. This album in itself is all out hardcore punk, save for a few more subdued and conventional guitar lines here and there, which add to the sonic layers present here.
