Musically ‘Cometa’ sounds like an old C-90 cassette found by the side of the road. The music is wonky and distressed. The lyrics are half-spoken, half-crooned; everything sounds like it being played at the wrong speed, but it feels right because of it. This is Hakim at his best.

Rarely deviating from a mix of elation and stupefaction, Cometa doesn't have the range of emotions examined on Green Twins and Will This Make Me Good, but frayed-nerve howls, phrases of distress ... would have disturbed the groove.

Hakim has a knack for crafting songs that burn slowly and steadily, and while they lack the depth and development needed to reach a full fire on COMETA, fans of Hakim’s previous work may still find the gentle glow of his latest effort enjoyable.

With the way "Cometa" is mixed and produced, I felt that none of its songs was boring. It is immersive, really engaging and Nick Hakim's vocal performance is extremely good. One of my favourite albums of 2022 so far.

Hakim's best since Green Twins.
Really chill and smooth psychedelic soul with a lot of interesting sonic details and textures.
Have a feeling this will grow on me over time.
