Even when removed from their site-specific function, the two pieces on Laminated Denim stay true to their original mission: They each make 15 minutes go by in a breeze.
Time contains KG structurally, but not creatively.
On Laminated Denim they revisit a previous concept, with one 15-minute track on each side intended as intermission music for a live show, floating along on a wave of jazzy good vibes.
It certainly slots in a level below their more considered releases, but if one is fully onboard with the King Gizzard experience, Laminated Denim is certainly worth adding to an ever expanding collection of works.
If you’re under 25 years old — or an immature 30-plus — I’m about to set your ass straight. So, listen up. Your music is fucking garbage. There, I said it. Mindless crap. Eardrum-bursting, dagger-in-the-eyes, ass-bagging, blow your fucking brains out — unadulterated dog shit. That pretty much sums up the type of music that’s popular with today’s young people. Listen, you stupid sons of bitches. I’m talking at you. I’m your elder. My opinion ... read more
Competent project I feel like the 15 min track gimmick makes the tracks feel like they drag on a little and not end at a natural point , but the first of the tow tracks is an abosulte vibe and the second ones a good song. I see my self returning to this and updating my rating.
Despite some fuzzy guitar tones and muddy mixing that can occasionally neuter the energy, the musicianship is really what shines through here. The grooves are hypnotic, the transitions between sections are seamless, and the overall arrangement of these two tracks makes for a winding and thrilling journey.
Gizzing Everywhere #24
I thought this was going to be another Made In Timeland situation for me, where the long songs just make it uninteresting and fairly dull. But this honestly surprised me a lot with how engaged I was and how fun this project was. I don't think I could give it a higher score than 80 though as there really isn't much to say about it, it's just really good.
Verdict: Better than Timeland
