Wildly beautiful, beautifully creative and creatively entrancing. This is another one of those hidden gems found via scrolling endlessly through this site and being enamored by an album cover. Some people may come into this being confused at the idea of 4 tracks making an album or that there's a 20+ minute track that ties off the whole thing, but it's all absolutely worth the listen.
Ending up at just over 40 minutes long, 'We Are Still Wild Horses' is a ride that I sat comfortably in and rode ... read more
Damn another 2023 surprise.
I really enjoyed the first LP of him, and was glad to hear a new upcoming artist with it's own proper sound, so I was intrigued when he announced the sophomore.
Today it dropped and it surprised me it's only 4 tracks, man's went full on 70s style with one that's +20 minutes long with long ass psychedelic passages and it's really worth, it's not up there with pink floyd or yes, but it's a really great attempt.
The rest of the tracks are really good too, love the ... read more
The first two tracks really didn’t do much for me and the 21 minute closer has some beautiful moments but the 3rd track(End of the Road) is the only real highlight here.
Just the four tracks in what can either be seen as an ambitious or self indulgent record based on your own set of preferences. I feel that it falls somewhere in the middle.
Essential Track - Winter Time Blues
I found MF Tomlinson's last album to be thoroughly enjoyable and quite underrated, and he hit the mark yet again. Hopefully this one gets more attention.
I was expecting something generic and bland, and what I got was surprisingly creative and different.
It's quite creative in terms of sound, but I enjoyed it, and to be able to put together a 20 minute song takes talent, and it's very well put together and is quite refreshing in a sea of indie rock.
This gives me Richard Dawson 'The Hermit' vibes with it's slow, yet methodical approach to folk music.
Surprised by the record, didn't expect it to be that good. The two opening tracks are meh but they make up less than an half of the album. End of the road is just beautiful. And the closing track is like a long roller-coaster ride, not to mention it must have been a really brave decision to make a 21-minute track. Really impressive.
Best: End of the Road, We Are Still Wild Horses
1. A Cloud 8.0/10
2. Winter Time Blues 8.4/10
3. End Of The Road 8.2/10
4. We Are Still Wild Horses 8.0/10
21 minutes a song 💀
Holy fucking shit this album is underrated absolutely crazy stuff. If you can make a 20 minute song seem justified that's a mark of talent in my eyes.
Pretty good - Winter Time Blues is a standout, but as expected, We Are Still Wild Horses is a little indulgent.

Made me think of:
Sufjan Stevens
Andy Shauf
Father John Misty
Quite enjoyable! Not usually my style, but it provided a great listen. Hoping to see more like it in 2023.
Really interesting record. Had my doubts at first but once you give yourself over it is worth it.
Favorite Track: Winter Time Blues
A Cloud opens with a wistful and beautiful ballad that elicits feelings of loss and longing. Worry for the future and regret of things lift undone. Winter Time Blues continues with plucked strings and soft trumpets Tomlinson laments his fatigue drawn from things out of his control. Followed by a similarly expressive guitar solo, it is both calm and exciting, filled with anticipation for the thaw. End of the Road follows with another lament of people lost and missing as Tomlinson hopes to see ... read more
This album has a super retrospective and well-thought-out narrative. Tomlinson wants and tries to adapt to the norms of modern-day youths and society in general, to the point where it angers him. He ponders what the end of time would be like on our third track "end of the road", realizing that his struggle to fit in and change towards the modern times is a characteristic shared among lots of people, referencing the popularity and revival of the late 20th-century aesthetics in the 4th ... read more
Easy record to listen to, just because of its length. Nice Melodies on the opener "A Cloud", Great Guitar Solo on "Winter Time Blues" with an amazing tone, beautiful acoustic guitar and piano on "End of the Road" with catchy hook, slow & jazzy intro to the 20 minute closing title track filled with some cool flute passages. Maybe the closer could have been cut down to 15 Minutes. Other than that, liking this one.
not really my type of music, but i thought i'd give it a try as the 21-minute song length intrigued me. honestly, that was probably the best song of the bunch, even if the second half was mostly just random music. the other songs just feel rather generic to me.
My first introduction to MF Tomlinson and it was a nice listen for sure. The album was not too long track wise but the closer was over 20 minutes and there were some awesome moments but also dragged out. The other songs were nice but track 2 was a little underwhelming to me.
There are only four songs on this album. Just your four, 4, only 4. That’s bold and brazen if you ask me. It’s a glorious voyage through dreamy soundscapes pulling in folk, country, jazz and 70s stoner rock. This final track is a 21-minute epic composition, which makes me think that thee real song ended part way through but they forgot to stop recording before sauntering off on an experimental tangent which sounds like he’s running through a gigantic studio full of ... read more
