his aural travelogue's sensual cool, brooding tension, and elegiac tenderness are inseparable from one another. It is complete, but even at this length Blackened Cities ends all too soon.

An immense song from start to finish. Entrancing you in with its stunning vocals and subtle instrumentals. One of the best songs of the year. Maybe could of thrown you off a bit more around the 15 min mark but overall an incredible jazz piece well worth my rating.
This unique song, recorded live in studio, shows De Biasio and her band as a group that claims for more heart than head when it´s about to create music together. And why not share with everybody? And even being this kind of recording so intimate, "Blackened Cities" was put out to certify the aesthetics they brought with the now classic "No Deal". 25 minutes of a blessed trip in jazz and music as a whole.
Mélanie de Biasio's dark excursion into the blackened cities with her band introduces itself as a force to be reckoned with - an almost, dreamlike free-form jazz session entirely presented with post-rock aura. Unfortunately, within the 25 minutes it lasts, no effort is made to throw you off balance in the slightest. An extremely ambitious piece overall for the jazz vocalist, but to put it simply, it feels far too comfortable of a listen to feel like a complete package.
Just one composition for a post-jazz flight above the blackened cities that you wish that it would go on forever.
Really, it only lasted nearly 25 minutes!
