Metal Hammer

Babymetal's fourth album The Other One affirms why the Japanese band are now global superstars.

Classic Rock
This is the maturing of cute metal, and it's still nuts.

Distorted Sound
BABYMETAL might be the band some love to hate, but to their credit The Other One is a far more mature outing that deserves to change more than a few of those minds, with this being their best album yet.

Kerrang!

It’s hard not to have fun when every track here feels suitably like its own adventure, and impressively still, BABYMETAL sound like they’ve been steering the ship through these parallel universes not for the first time, but for years. Strap yourself in, and put those kitsunes up.

The Skinny
Returning from hiatus and restored as a duo, BABYMETAL ditch the 'baby' on their all-conquering, coming-of-age fourth album.

While it might be initially disappointing to lose a decade of Babymetal influences, it was probably time and the more mature and serious Babymetal sound is still as captivating as always.

What, on the surface is mostly a fun, noisy collection also offers an infinite rabbit hole to dive down.

AllMusic

Other One feels like it was pulled through a wormhole from a universe where a committee writes Babymetal's metallic pop emissions, intent on flowing with the current instead of against it.

Metal Injection

It's slightly disappointing for the fans who came expecting something like the Sabaton and Arch Enemy collabs of the last record.

Yeah, it's another BABYMETAL album. What else is there to say?

It's probably their best, but that doesn't mean it's still not over-compressed, annoying, and cheesy at parts. Some of the riffs are great, most of the vocals are not great, and most of the production is questionable, but the energy and creativity are present I guess, so yeah.

I love Alt Metal but this band was never for me, at all. There are a few good songs on here though, which is more than I expected. But yeah I'll forget this ... read more

Yesss BABYMETAL always bring absolute joy with their fun as hell Japanese metal. I definitely feel that this was a much more mature album compared to their others, even though I didn’t like it as much as Metal Resistance. As usual it’s pretty tacky, it’s a lot to take in, it’s easy to love and easy to hate at the same time. I don’t think anything really stood out to me in this album but I’m glad they stuck to what they do best and seemed to take it more ... read more

BABYMETAL spent over a year “sealed” (aka in hiatus) after their gargantuan 2019 album “METAL GALAXY”, and have finally returned with their newest concept album “THE OTHER ONE”. The album distinctly marks a departure from the group’s “METAL X” titling format and also marks a sonic departure from their past projects. Some of the group’s most iconic quirks are embraced, and others shed for more mature songwriting. But overall, BABYMETAL ... read more

Every song manages to be hype and everything is a banger. I feel like all the reviews are about how BabyMetal has changed but I don't want to take away from how damn good this album is

BABYMETAL is back and holy crap 2019 flew by.
A bit of a step down from METAL GALAXY but a lot of the same catchy tunes, riffs, and earworm melodies still remain which has me hooked with this band.

Strawberry bubblegum flavored metal, I won't deny that I liked it.
