Furling expands the sonic palette, bringing in piano, percussion, harp, vibraphone and more. The results bring new dimensions to her psychedelic folk.
Despite the vintage points of reference, Furling never feels like a bloodless exercise in pastiche or recycled nostalgia.
This whole thing is encapsulating. Sonically it's one of the most well written Folk albums I've ever had the grace to hear and it pairs well with a midday walk. It slowly unravels over time, too, not letting anything be too overwhelming. Utterly beautiful all the way through.

The pairing of airy vocals and gently unfolding, ornamental folk arrangements could have landed this in 'nice but blah' territory - luckily there's a certain intensity to her performance, and a vaguely mysterious atmosphere in attendance; these qualities help add some depth and a timeless sensibility to proceedings.
Very soft and charming, with incredible vocals, with really good instrumentation.
Most of what has come out of 2023 so far has been very slow and psychedelic stuff, which doesn't bother me as much as that there isn't much variety so far.
