I can see why this is regarded as a true metal classic. First and foremost, Tony Iommi shows his wonderful talent on this thing. Aside from track 3, every song is just loaded to the brim with iconic riffs and magnificent solos that every good metal album really needs. The rest of the instrumentation is also rock-solid (for instance those drum-fills in Rat Salad). Ozzy's classic vocals are also pretty good, and while he doesn't go up and beyond all that much, they're really good all-around. The ... read more

What can I say? It's a classic.

The first time I heard Was Pigs as a kid, I felt cool as fuck. Like hell yeah, fuck you SOCIETY! Everyone of these songs is just iconic. You got the loud, blasting ones like "Iron Man" and the more toned down ones like "Rat Salad." I don't have much to say here. It's just absurdly fun. Smart and eclectic, this music just makes you feel good while listening to it. Even through all the dark tones you never find ... read more

Black Sabbath manage to top their great debut with their sophomore project. Paranoid is perhaps the most influential metal record ever as it really defined the sound of the genre as a whole. This is not only considered one of the best metal albums of all time, but it is often cited as one of the greatest albums of any genre of all time.

Second only to The Velvet Underground, the early releases from Black Sabbath have been able to wield an amount of relevance unlike most bands of their era with 'Paranoid' being their most accessible and quintessential work. Not that it's a bad thing being easy to play. Far from it actually. The vividness of Paranoid's lyrics are quite astonishing. I like to think that's in part to how each song on Paranoid feels like its own piece; with Side A being the best example. With songs like the title ... read more

Amazing

Black Sabbath paved the way for basically most of the metal bands to come out of the 70s and 80s, with their unrelenting, sheer apocalyptic style and and underlying sense of devastation. That was exhibited on their debut a lot, and I think it's played to a lesser degree on here. However, this record is just so much more memorable and iconic with everything it accomplishes.
