Meat Is Murder ... is better recorded than The Smiths, although it's more a bunch of songs that didn't fit on singles than a coherent album. When it's good, it's great.
With their second proper album Meat Is Murder, the Smiths begin to branch out and diversify, while refining the jangling guitar pop of their debut.
While it is far from being a terrible record (it is actually quite impressive), it pales in comparison to the incredible potential displayed on their first album.
When Morrisey said "I'd like to drop my trousers to the Queen / Every sensible child knows what this means" I did not know what he meant :/
some really unique and interesting subject matter is discussed in this album, but i HATEEEE the title track and it feels so out of place in the album. i think "meat is murder" is a dumb and insensitive statement to make in the first place. this album has more misses than the previous, but i feel it gets balanced out by some amazing songs like: well i wonder, wan't the one i cant have, rusholme ruffians, and headmaster ritual. overall a very unique listen, and it does contain some of ... read more
