Meat Is Murder ... is better recorded than The Smiths, although it's more a bunch of songs that didn't fit on singles than a coherent album. When it's good, it's great.

With their second proper album Meat Is Murder, the Smiths begin to branch out and diversify, while refining the jangling guitar pop of their debut.

While it is far from being a terrible record (it is actually quite impressive), it pales in comparison to the incredible potential displayed on their first album.
