The dance-in-your-room record you'll secretly love for the rest of your lifetime and a fantastic debut by one of the best indie bands that came out from the eighties.

Being that “This Charming Man” and “Reel Around the Fountain” are some of The Smiths’ most complex songs, the rest of the record seems like a draft, all be it a very good draft. It wouldn’t be until two years later that they would perfect their sound that is evident in this LP’s high points. Despite some of the filler here, it is still a wonderful debut from one of the greatest acts of the 80s.

The smiths were definitely still finding their voice on s/t, but all the smiths hallmarks are here and make for a solid debut from a solid band.

Best Tracks: This Charming Man, You’ve got everything now, Pretty Girls Make Graves
Worst Tracks: Reel Around The Fountain, Suffer little children

Rating: 81/100(fairly great)
