Disgusting, but also beautiful. Take Xiu Xiu, Daughters, and Nine Inch Nails, and put them all in a blender with a pinch of LCD Soundsystem, and you have the basis for this album. What makes it standout however is the incredible attention to detail with songwriting, production, and overall structure.

Easily my AOTY so far, and an incredible punk/industrial album. Do not miss out on this one. ALSO THIS IS A DEBUT!!! BRUH!!!

NO NUANCE REVIEW

This record is for my mentally ill girlies. Hotties with trauma only. If you’re not a bad bitch with issues you need to work through this record is not for you, you wouldn’t get it

for real tho this year has been so good so far holy shit

Dogsbody is like getting fucked by a synth from Fallout. Like a hot synth with a big synth dick and a dictionary.com tab of raunchy words it has open in its robot computer brain that it can whisper in your ear. So it's pretty hot. But you do have a cold metal robot penis in your butt, and you have no idea what’s gonna happen when it… ejaculates? But its not like you're having a bad time, so keep on pumping, you delectable humanoid synthetic individual. Good album.

Menacing bangers all around!

Dogsbody is the debut album from Brooklyn-based Dance-Punk group Model/Actriz.

This is a very difficult album to interpret into words. From what I can gather based on the lyrics, it sounds like the perspective of the lead singer being trapped in an abusive relationship, but appears to become submissive to the physical pain he's suffering from.

What makes it more noticeable is the way Cole Haden sings each word with such a uncomfortably low range that makes him ... read more

Beautiful structure, an absolutely gorgeous aesthetic that brings to mind incredible imagery without saying too much, wonderful curvature, looks to be a real penetrator. I give the ceramic dildo on this cover a 9/10. Anyway, this album is fire and sounds like finally letting out the most constipated explosive diarrhea of your life.

Fucking finally, a good band from Boston. You wanna talk oversaturation of a genre right now? Let's talk about it.

Oh my fucking god?

It’s only February and we got our first 9? Are you kidddding me?
To think I accidentally found Model/Actriz off of Discover Spotify from a misclick. A MISCLICK.
It’s like god said “Here Nick. Here’s something you gotta bump.” and I complied. Stars aligned and all. I found M/A’s Suntan/Damocles single release to absolutely fuck. It was catchy, punky, abrasive. Everything I like in a record. Then the singles came around and I was ... read more

Wow how do you even describe this album? I've been waiting for it to drop for like 2 months now, The first time ive heard about this band was from a Fantano video, I listened to their EP from 2017 and loved it, And the singles for this album were very promising. But I have to say it honestly exceeded my expectations a little bit even though they were very high. I wasn't expecting this album to hit so hard emotionally, I was expecting a lot of post punk industrial bangers, And it had a bunch of ... read more

I don't know how appropiate is to say that this album is danceable. I mean, it's a disgusting sounding mental breakdown, pretty much. But it's also super entertaining to listen to? Entertaining is probably not the right word to describe this, as it is an unpleasant experience, but I will definitely return to this in the future. It's not like By the Time I Get to Phoenix, where it's so uncomfortable that I barely listen to it anymore, it's beautiful in it's repulsiveness. This is some good ... read more

Good job Model/Actriz, this album is very SUS

I like it though, even though I maybe wasn't expecting too condidering the genres. Is it my kinda vibe? No. Will I return to it? No. But was it a solid listen? Definitely, it's overly pretty creative and unique so I can't complain.

Again, not replayable for me, but it is an interesting and also SUS album

It definitely has that Punk energy to it. I gotta say it gets repetitive in the 2nd half though, the songs start recycling the same ideas from ... read more

Its a blend of xiu xiu, swans, daughters, deftones (also street sects and nin) and other assorted unhinged goodness that just scratches that itch in my brain so well, this is my goddamned sht!!
(This is gonna be on fantano's end of the year list calling it)
edit: i havent been so obsessed with an album in a while, we'll see if it holds up in the future but for now ooooh boy

Mr Peabody and Sherman reference???

Is it weird these vocals remind me of that Wilbur Soot dude?? Yes? It's just me? Anyway.. this record is honestly really good. It's got creative production choices and a hardcore sound to it, that a post-rock/post-punk fan as myself loves!

Honestly I'm honestly listening to this album because @ruubiks has been ranting about it a bunch and because I wanted to make a Mr. Peabody and Sherman joke, but I unexpectedly found a really creative, chilling post-punk ... read more

This feels like being stabbed and then squashed by the weight of hell

What the absolute hell is this. Holy shit. On first listen I thought this was a 7/10. Then I sat and thought to myself “man there’s gotta be a reason everyone is freaking out about this album” and then I listened again the next day and I’m like OHHHHH. This thing is so raw, ugly and fucked up. The thing that initially turned me away from this album was the vocals, but idk now I kinda love them. They ... read more

Brief Review: Daughters if they made dance music.

This is one of the grooviest albums of the year so far! Sure, in some pockets, it very much wears its influences on its sleeve (Daughters, BCNR, Nine Inch Nails, etc), but for what it is, it does its stuff pretty damn well! It's absolutely a strong contender for one of the best of the year, and I'm super excited to see what else they can do with more albums. Absolutely worth a listen if you love this type of stuff!

The most uniquely terrifying, perverted, unhinged, beautiful, sexy, and mind-expanding album I’ve heard, maybe ever. I was expecting so much, and even I couldn’t have expected how nearly perfect this was as an experience. The lyrical content of this album is absolutely chilling as Cole Haden writes from the perspective of someone who has had sexual trauma to the point where pleasure itself has become perverted and painful to them. The sounds of the album itself are one of the most ... read more

Dogsbody sounds like if xiu xiu and black midi has a baby. The project is a psychedelic experience to an insane journey. Vocalist has a lot of charisma and a dark personality that works well with experimental and bizarre production. If you want to be on a drug drive, listen to this album.

Finally, I got to check this out, and boy the wait was worth it.

Synchronized chaos is the best way I can word this album, but that still wouldn't do this album justice. The sheer instrumentals are extremely raw but perfected at the same time, instantly setting a state of confusion to the listener. It matches the intimidating vocals present thought the album, voices filled with panic and disarray truly make this album distorted to perfection. For anyone who loved albums like Spiderland, ... read more
