After the amazing debut Whitechapel followed up with a more matured and darker level to their music. Exploring some aspects of melody, and atmospheric creepy ominous soundscapes. A bit of that exploration kind of outstays its welcome and you wonder if that material should have been a small ep or something. The fans were kind of expecting a deeper dive into breakdowns and rhythm. The drums feel more like an exercise in how to fill space rather than instrumental in the sound. A new Era of ... read more

To me this is probably the best deathcore record of all time and the real blue print of the genre. I'm not saying they started it cuz they did not but this encapsulates the true essence of it to me. It's a really catchy record for how brutal or in your face it is. Amazing.

Deathcore classic. Took a great deal of what made the debut great and just ran with it. Grimy, dark tones and fun rhythms with breakdowns galore. Tracks are actually pretty varied for the most part with highlights on This Is Exile and Possession being deathcore staples.
Plenty of catchy singalongs, overall intensity, and an occasional actual utilization of three guitarists set this apart from most other generic -core bands of the time. And god damn it is so fucking angry.

Deathcore at its peak here.

Not as good as A New Era but definitely one of the better albums in Whitechapel's discography.

The Somatic Defilement left the bar too high, but its still a good album

Good deathcore band and album, the riffs, the incredible growls, and the drums, bass and production make it without a doubt a great Lp, although in some songs you feel the lack of inspiration and the recycling of riffs. Despite that, it's a very good album that a deathcore fan should listen to.
