I am surprised with just how much I enjoyed the dreamy and slow burn that is The Hot Rock, I may even like it more than Dig Me Out now that I am really thinking about it. After making a much bigger splash with their breakout 1997 Indie Rock album Dig Me Out, Sleater-Kinney was put on the map as someone to look out for during the rest of the 90s. Dig Me Out was an absolute classic, and a barnburner of a record. The passionate performances and incredible songwriting hooked me, and it's pretty safe to say that I feel pretty much the exact same here. This is a prime example of slowing down working in a bands favor. Granted, the two albums I've heard so far, The Woods and Dig Me Out, are both absolute rockers, but this album just shows their brilliance in a new light, a slightly more subdued form.
