This really isn't my cup of tea, but It's in the top 10 of the year, so i had to give it a shot. IMO it wasn't worth it. It isn't bad, but it isn't good either. The vocals aren't particularly impressive. Nothing really resonated with me. There were very few bold production decisions. It also didn't have many catchy songs, which often is my way to enjoy default pop. But this is mostly slow, un-interesting mediocre singing over pretty tame and generic instrumentals.
I can see it being something ... read more

'Desire, I Want To Turn Into You' is without a doubt a good album, but I can't help but feel like the singles were really the biggest highlights from the record, as I came away from it fairly underwhelmed. Not underwhelmed to the point where I felt like it was middling or anything, I still enjoyed the album, but underwhelmed in that I was expecting so much more based on the quality of the singles, but the end product just wasn't as great as I hoped. Even then I still enjoyed the material on the ... read more

What a great follow up to Pang, Miss Polachek!

Desire, I Want To Turn Into You is Caroline Polachek's second studio album, following her otherwordly 2019 debut, Pang. Considering how much more nocturnal and artsy Pang was, I wondering what this record entailed for Caroline, and to see her move into even poppier aesthetics is certainly an artistic step I wasn't expecting, but I think it worked out for the most part, as Caroline's melodies remain beautifully sharp and ethereal whilst providing a ... read more

Caroline Polachek made an incredible album this year. Various songs such as Bunny Is A Rider and Sunset are the reason why I come back to listening more to Caroline Polachek. Absolutely stellar! ❤️

Wel come to my is land hope you li ke me you ain't le aving 💃💃💃 Hey Hey Hey HEY!

Seriously though, this has a lot of bops. I'm astonished about Caroline's voice, she has an incredible voice and so much fucking talent, being one of the best vocalists in Pop right now, and I MEAN IT!

All songs here have not only satisfactory but PERFECT performances. Every single line, sound, and word sung here doesn't have mistakes, nor comes from a place absent of creativity and freshness. Actually, ... read more

Filling the 2023 art pop void in my heart quite nicely.

All I can say is 'wow'. After more than a month, this album still doesn't come out of my headphones, so far it is the production I return to most often in 2023. Fascinatingly, I can't name a favorite track, one song that I would loop over and over again. I love this album as a whole precisely, not for individual moments.

This... surprisingly worked for me. It's got its moments that are too slow and maybe a little too melodramatic, but for someone that isn't particularly in to pop, I enjoyed this a decent amount. The vocal performances on here are great, and I think there's enough variation in range and mood each song to keep me interested. Not in love with this project or anything, but I think it's personally satisfactory.

eh, it's alright

To be honest, my listen of this somewhat disappointed me, considering the fact that it has a purple "Must Hear Album" flag. However, this album tended to bore me. That doesn't mean it's bad though. I still enjoyed it, just not as much as I wished I did.

Re-Review (65 -> 68):

Although there are some dull moments, much of "Desire, I Want to turn into you" is a super fun art-pop experience

a very elegant pop album. very chill and down-tempo songs but they were all beautifully crafted and very visual to listen to. i had a clear visual with every song, even on the first listen. 'sunset' feels like it should be enjoyed on a mediterranean coast wearing worn out jeans and self-made jewelery. whereas the next song 'crude drawing of angel' sounds like walking through a sparkly clean sewage tunnel, moody, eerie, pretty, and blue. 'butterfly net' felt like chasing beams of sunlight even ... read more
