this song is part of the dark, gritty puzzle that is lanas magnum opus (imo). it pulls you out of the real world and into the story its telling, and every second from the beginning to end hits hard and deep. on top of that, the album its from fits this vibe to a tee and its other tracks could easily be lead singles as well and be just as impressive. never stop lana!!!
3. ocean blvd
i wouldnt be surprised if this grew off me over time, especially when the rest of the album drops. regardless, i love ocean blvd and i think it does what mariners did, but significantly better. it doesnt drag, it has insane emotion, and lyrics that are infinitely complex and interesting.
2. love
SO FUCKING UNDERRATED! this and lust for life deserve more love. i adore this song so much and its definitely one of lanas songs i revisit the most. on top of that, it flows perfectly with the album and the only thing preventing it from being number 1 is that i think it honestly isnt the best song on its respective album.
5. mariners apartment complex
probably the most controversial take ill try to make here, i just think that mariners apartment complex isnt all that impressive compared to the rest of nfr. lana really reinvented herself on nfr and this was probably the least innovated point of that album imo. however its still miles above the previous songs just because its still a great song, just not one id call a perfect representation of lana or nfr.
4. video games
this one earns points for being a certified classic, but i think its definitely not aged the best. the pacing isnt managed fantastically and its a little bland, but it also introduced the world to lana impressively and accurately as well as gave a great idea of what to expect for born to die.
ranking every lana projects lead single because i feel like it:
8. high by the beach
its not an awful song, its pretty ok, but its easily the most underwhelming song from the most underwhelming album from lana, so an odd choice for a lead single
7. let me love you like a woman
another odd choice as a single as i thought chemtrails did a good job adding variety to the style it was aiming for, but this was easily the standout track when it came to that particular genre of moody piano ballads
6. blue banisters
this is lower on the list for the same reasons as the previous one, but i just rated it higher because i think it as well as its album are just generally better, or at least easier to come back to, than chemtrails
(continuing)
this super indie underground artist you guys probably havent heard of is releasing an album pretty soon. her name is lana del slay, shes like really unkown, probably because of how quirky and unique her song titles are. like "Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing", taylor swift could NEVER!!! πππ
My predictions— I have a feeling the sprawling tracklist will give us a record something like Lust for Life but with a broader range of production. Plus one of the producers mentioned it being "full of surprises". Dare I say the Tommy Genesis feature will spawn a dance/darkpop deep cut and explore a previously untouched territory in her artistry. The variety of features makes me think we'll get curveball tracks. I feel a pivot from the Chemtrails/Blue Banisters eras.
