The 405
It makes for an exhausting and engrossing listen, and ultimately can’t be anything but a life-affirming statement.

Consequence of Sound

For those who have paid close attention to the band’s evolution, it seemed inevitable that he would get to this point. Accordingly, A Corpse Wired for Sound feels like a culmination.

The Line of Best Fit

A Corpse Wired for Sound is still distinctively a Merchandise album, even though it’s a relative departure from their previous work. It definitely sounds a lot lonelier than its predecessors, though, as if Merchandise have become isolated by their own intelligence.

NME
‘A Corpse Wired For Sound’ represents a back-to-basics move, but also a bold pushing against frontiers.

AllMusic
Their experimentation and artistic growth is the trend they pursue most doggedly with each release, though the sounds here won't be totally unfamiliar to fans of their previous albums. It's a tough act to consistently maintain, but they've delivered another artful, well-crafted release.

DIY
A surgical dissection of a full decade of influence, Merchandise pay homage to their upbringing without ever breaking eye contact with the sprawling future set ahead of them.
74
Pitchfork
If Merchandise weren't a rock band before, they certainly are now. They've gotten a little more earnest and shoot for a bigger sound. It's a mixed bag, but it's hard to hate them for it.
70
Loud and Quiet
There is truth and beauty here, certainly, but it’s a floating, meandering kind of truth that speaks more to the mundane loneliness of the everyday than it does to wired corpses, distended or otherwise.

Drowned in Sound
There is a wonderful record in here somewhere, but I can’t shake the feeling that this release has been made in sullen compliance. For all its talk of finding peace and acceptance, there’s no joy in its creation, and that comes across stronger each time I return.

The Guardian
Instead of summoning fresh ingenuity, the Floridians linger in the shadows of the past.

They've gone Depeche Mode on this.
