Consequence of Sound

Mysterious and mostly interview-averse since the start of his career, PND has been an enigma for a while, and P3 feels ahead of its time.

74
Pitchfork

PARTYNEXTDOOR follows up his biggest hit, penning Rihanna's summer jam “Work,” with his most assured and confident work yet.

70
PopMatters

P3 is worth a listen because it allows the singer to ease off on the emulation and indulge in musical eccentricities unique to him, flaws and all.

64
HipHopDX

P3 doesn’t totally live up to the hype due to the excess sadness rendering it a tad boring but at the very least it gives us an explicit snapshot of where OVO’s second-in-command is at emotionally.

60
NOW Magazine

Much like Drizzy’s Views, P3 spreads its tales of woe, heartache and sex across the GTA, and in doing so further aligns the city with OVO Sound’s minimal melancholy and bass-worshipping aesthetic.

60
Exclaim!

While PND's production is typically on point, his songwriting and vocal skills are still evolving.

60
XXL

P3 is an enjoyable listen and includes its fair share of selections that are simply addictive, but as a whole, falls a bit short of the lofty expectations many fans had while looking forward to this project. Rather than being a coronation of an R&B superstar, it is a reminder of the potential as a hit-making solo artist PartyNextDoor has yet to fulfill.

60
AllMusic

The hour-plus set offers more variations on the narcotic, boast-filled slow jams for which Brathwaite and his fellow OVO Sound artists are known. Apart from a little crafty sonic detailing, nothing distinguishes them from what came before.

The Needle Drop
OVO's PartyNextDoor returns with some slight improvements on his spacey R&B sound.

Party Next Door if you're listening to this album, because at my party we're bumping KAYTRANADA

The whole album sounds way too cliche and overused, and the worst part is how the singer sounds bored of every song before it even begins.

Doesn't do it for me

A return to form for PND. It's much darker in nature than PND2 but it's not as dull. He tries to go for the pop sensibilities that Drake attempted on Views, but PND actually does it... well? His production is solid and his vocal delivery has much improved making it less of a slog to endure. There are a few duds here and there but otherwise, it's a solid comeback after the disastrous PND2.

Faves: High Hopes, Only U, Joy, 1942, Come and See Me
Least Faves: Brown Skin, Temptations

Every song sounds like the same rehashed formula of half singing half rapping over shitty moody beats that PARTY created and has since been redone by Bryston Tiller, Tory Lanez & 6LACK. The only song worth listening to on an album with SIXTEEN (!!!) songs is "Come And See Me".
