CRITIC REVIEWS

100
NME
The mysterious group have become one of the scene’s most talked-about bands. Their latest album more than justifies the intrigue.
100
Upset

This is the most inventive metal has sounded in a long time. Sleep Token have been regularly touted as the future of the genre. On ‘Take Me Back To Eden’, the future is now.

Metal Sucks

There’s just so much to appreciate about Sleep Token, especially with Take Me Back to Eden simultaneously polarizing their extremes and letting their nuances flourish. If nothing else, this album earns the growth it has already given one of the coolest bands in recent memory.

90
Distorted Sound

Take Me Back To Eden will have fans frothing at the maw trying to dissect each morsel more than we have done. It’s an album which borders on perfection but much like those who came before, perfection sits just out of reach.

80
Metal Hammer
This is a record that not only expands the band's universe and continues to prod metal's boundaries, but considers what it means to be human. Otherworldly they may be, but there's the deepest empathy within.

Blabbermouth.net
SLEEP TOKEN really have no musical boundaries, and what's special about "Take Me back to Eden" is how the album takes the listener on a musical journey, through different styles, sounds, instrumentation and stories.
80
The Skinny
The final part of a trilogy of albums by masked London collective Sleep Token is an hour-long genre odyssey of epic proportions.
80
Kerrang!

For those who like their rock and metal to hit with swift immediacy, Take Me Back To Eden’s hour-plus runtime might prove a bit of a slog, but if you allow yourself to be fully immersed in Sleep Token’s world, the sonic rewards are plentiful.

80
The Arts Desk

Take Me Back To Eden is an album that rewards further listens... rich and brimming with inventiveness.

65
Metal Injection

Take Me Back to Eden largely feels like a collection of generic compositions that—despite having some Sleep Token sheen—could've been created by any number of other artists.

60
The Line of Best Fit

Despite a thorough investigation into their decadent lore, Sleep Token’s identities remain unknown. Blowing them wide open could crush the allure, particularly when the group excellently serves to intrigue both metal lovers and non-believers alike with Take Me Back To Eden. It may not be revolutionary in its music or pantomime, with some evident missteps.

50
Clash
Sleep Token are a magnificently skilled collective, with a serious knack for anything they seem to put their minds to sonically. What would do far more justice to their skill would be a decision to trim the fat – if they’re going to go hard, then go hard, and if they’re going to go soft, go soft.
50
AllMusic
After three or four of these hard-to-follow stylistic roadmaps, however, the excitement quickly becomes exhaustion, and Sleep Token's overly-polished sound starts to feel more overwrought than enjoyable.
20
The Needle Drop
Sleep Token's latest sounds almost devoid of human touch.

worst album I've heard in a while, every single song on this album sounds as if it was solely designed for a 30 second drop to be used on tiktok

huh. you guys really have a lot of thoughts about this new Sleep Token record.

alright. guess I’ll find out why.

I didn’t know anything about the British modern prog metal band Sleep Token until a couple of weeks ago when their new album dropped and EVERYONE started chiming in with their thoughts about it. At least, I didn’t think I did. Turns out they’ve blown up from TikTok, which was news to me. I use TikTok, metal bands show up in my fyp all the time, even the ones ... read more

I love all of the singles except for DYWTYLM; that song was ass. The only other stinker is Are You Really Okay?. Ascensionism is one of the strongest on the record but the other non-singles are pretty mid. The flow of the album makes no sense, unfortunately. Every song feels mostly self-contained as there is no consistency in feel or tone from song to song. Over time my score could drop lower but I am interested to see how this one ages.
