WARNING: brief notes mostly directed to people that are not here just for the pure fun of trashing everything (which is always easier by the way).
Let’s be clear, there was no need to make this album, it is definitely too long and too many songs hit exactly the same key and played the same tricks too many times, and for that reason every piece of disappointment it is clearly justify, but let’s try to move on and see if there is something here to love (at least a tiny bit). bom.... que álbum é esse, primeiramente. como nenhum dos mutuals fez uma review deste álbum, vou me aventurar pela tristeza que é esse álbum de quase 3 horas. por causa disso essa será a única review do dia.
o U2 é uma banda bastante renomada que é famosa mundialmente devido a mtos hits que eles fizeram no passado, mtos bons hits. mas isso aqui.... eu realmente quero entender qual o propósito disso.
antes de ler a tracklist ... read more
Amazing how a band so successful as U2 can deliver their own music in a less fulfilling light as opposed to covering other artists. What is the reason for this? I am not against reimagining's of any kind, but with a catalogue as large as U2's, it stands to be strong until this day. Albums such as 'War', 'The Joshua Tree', and their best effort 'Achtung Baby' still sound incredible...
I don't understand why releasing a near 3 hour album with songs that are void of any sort of delight is ... read more
¡Por Dios! ¡Que maldita tortura!. Re imaginaciones de sus propias canciones ¿Para que? ¿Acaso no tienen fama y dinero suficiente? ¿Por que se empellan tanto en destrozar su reputación de esta manera?
Behold: MTV Unplugged reimagined as a torture device. The folks over at Gitmo are getting creative! But U2 deserve an award of some kind. Not every band can turn their most exciting material into lifeless, mind-numbing gruel.
This album is boring, yes, but I don’t think that word is big enough to capture the sheer sacrilege of these renditions. And I thought these guys were religious! There is no spirit to this record. All the color and energy is drained from these songs. It’s ... read more
im gonna go on a rant here, as it is appropriate
as an irish person, i hate this band and the snob that bono is. always preeching about being a good man that cares about the poor. IVE GONE TO TOWER RECORDS AND YOUR RECORD COSTS LIKE 50 EURO. HOW THE HELL DOES THIS GET AN 80 ON THE IRISH TIMES?? AM I GOING INSANE? AM I THE ONLY PERSON THAT HATES THIS RECORD AND AM TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND IT? NO. JESUS CHRIST THIS IS BOOMERCORE AT THIS RATE.
It's obviously very fashionable to publicly hate U2, but much like the band's own unabashed love of ABBA, I'm comfortable in my (admittedly moderate) enjoyment of the group's work. Not everything here sticks, unfortunately - and (for casual fans particularly) nearly three hours' material is quite something to contend with when it's inconsistently done. When it's good ("11 O'Clock Tick Tock", "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of", "Vertigo") it's great; when it's ... read more
40 classic tracks from the band re-recorded in a new way. There are some really interesting solutions. For example, the overplayed "One" is now enjoyable again. But who's willing to fully tackle the three-hour epic runtime of this behemoth?
The Songs of Surrender Challenge: Listening to this album until you surrender and turn it off.
It's aight.
The problem with remixes of legendary songs by legendary bands and artists is that they just can not and will not hold a candle to the original. Did you come into this song thinking U2 could remake Beautiful Day and make it better? Or Where The Streets Have No Name? Or Wild Horses, or Stuck In A Moment? Or I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For? Or With Or Without You? Or fucking SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY?!? Chances are, even if you're not a die hard U2 fan, you've heard all of ... read more
Why did they do such a thing? I listen to "With Or Without You" and I can't believe how badly they ruined that song.
No emotions, no idea, just tragically destroyed songs played as if to a bonfire.
Sometimes a few songs will pass by some miracle, which somehow save the atmosphere like "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" but it's a rarity
U2 makes something special...Soundtracks for the bland
Individual tracks on this album might be very bad or bland and mediocre but not what the score tells you. The problem however is that this is an album of their own songs again inspired by what sounds like adventures in hi-fi type rem except the person producing this album and mixing it all didn't know what they were doing, it sounds like the most lifeless music of all time. However that's not even the worst part. This album is a quarter ... read more
Boring ahh U2 album
Also too fucking long
Also why are they “reimagining” their old songs?
Not all of the reimaginings work (“Pride” is torture) but most of them are jaw dropping in their revelations. Whether it’s reworked lyrics from Bono looking back at his younger self (“Stories for Boys”) or pretty much all of the 2010s material sounding VASTLY improved without all that overproduction, there’s a lot to examine as far as the songwriting goes and no reliance on the studio trickery of Eno/Lanois (or the hackery of Ryan Tedder).
