Sounds like they finally got the real Wayne Coyne on vocals!
The opener to this album honestly sounds like something that could have been on The Soft Bulletin, but less developed and maybe still, a bit less cooky. Though we are finally getting to the point of this getting quite cooky, plus the songwriting has improved tenfold since even the last album.

More focused than the last two and a bit more alt rock and noise rock but more refined as well. A solid album.
The Flaming Lips, at the very least here, start to incorporate more experimental elements to their sound, but continue to sound completely unrecognizable from what they would sound like in the future. The group once again release a genre-conforming alternative rock album that does little to expand on their sound and do something memorable. Although I did in fact listen to this record, few moments stand out in memory and even fewer were actually enjoyable.

This is where The Flaming Lips move more out of their Noise Rock phase of their first 3 albums and into still noisy but more focused alternative rock and it's pretty excellent and with only a couple of weaker tracks that feel like they came from previous albums.
