O'Neill has locked onto humanity's flawed relationship with nature.
Worked on quietly throughout the pandemic, the songs here fuse O’Neill’s elemental explorations with more textured arrangements that we have been used to hearing from her.
A collection of songs that reap empathy from the seeds of discord and a subtle reminder that the "big old bold world" is neither friend nor foe.
All of This Is Chance is nonetheless a beautiful and bold album that showcases an artist unafraid to develop her sound further, revealing more of herself in the process.
Definitely not my speed, but in no way should that take away from this massive story that Lisa O'Neill is telling. It's somber, mysterious and personal and although I could do without this project, I can't help but appreciate how well structured it is. Some real good Folk!
Coherent and convincing singer-songwriter album of the Irish folk musician Lisa O'Neill. Only eight songs, although almost of abundatd length (three over six, two over five minutes) and therefore with a total album length of 42 minutes. Straight the first four tracks are preferable, imo, (and maybe the closing lullaby "Goodnight World"):
