Slowcore is a genre that's very near and dear to my heart. I Could Live In Hope by Low will always be one of the greatest pieces of art ever released imo. So I was very curious about this, obviously. I haven't heard much from Deathcrash, although I'm pretty sure I've checked out a few tracks on their last album, but I can't recall any of them.

And immediately with the first track, I knew I was going to like this. This gives me that OG Slowcore vibe that I love. Low, Red House Painters, and ... read more

This is going to be a pretty short review, because the album has really just enchanted me in a way that I feel I can't talk about too extensively.

This project is seriously just so gorgeously melancholy and touching. Gentle guitars and soft vocals orbit patient drumming as the record swallows you entirely in its tired, worn-down atmosphere. And although there is a palpable sense of sadness present throughout the entire thing, it's still so immensely comforting and warm. Whether you're losing ... read more

A very nice listen, but lacking in terms of memorability or returning factors for me.

A little emo, a little post-rock, all deathcrash. Excellent, restrained, slowcore.

Deathcrash's album from last year, Return, was an interesting debut, but also a bit of a bloated one that left me wanting a bit less next time in terms of the runtime. Less is exactly what we're getting on the sophomore and overall I think it's an improvement. I was a little worried when the tedious instrumental that is the third single And Now I Am Lit dropped, but luckily that's the worst track on here. Especially the first few tracks are some damn good slowcore; Pirouette is bliss, and I ... read more

brb, I'ma quickly go cry in the corner

Well, this was quite an experience. I didn't think that it'd be as depressing as it was but here we are. I'm not that familiar with the genre of slowcore but from what I've heard, it's pretty much post-rock on steroids.

Everything on here is really hauntingly sad, and the instrumentation is great, it feels so painful to listen to but in a good way. Nothing is overdone in any way, and the slow but cathartic build-up is worth the time it takes to get ... read more

This is my first time listening to Slowcore and I like it a lot.
I randomly decided to listen to this album just because I've really liked the album cover xd. I thought that it was gorgeous, so why not give it a try.
I absolutely love how smooth the instrumentals are and the way the heavier stuff kicks in. Vocals are not my favorite part of this record, but they are making the atmosphere in general, so I have no complaints.
Oh, I don't know why, but I love the cover so much

After slowcore outfit deathcrash's 2022 album 'Return' acted as the soundtrack of my GCSE revision sessions alongside caroline's self-titled LP, 'Less' quickly became one of my most highly anticipated albums of 2023.

I wasn't disappointed.

At half the length, I obviously wasn't expecting the 1-hour+ experience that 'Return' gave, but at times, that record dragged on. But honestly, I think having 'Less' be any more than another track longer than it is would make it too long.

'Less' doubles ... read more

REVIEW #39: Less by deathcrash

While there's not much on here that that massively stood out to me, I still think it's a really quality, eloquently orchestrated soft rock album. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it doesn't have to be.

I've never delved into slowcore before, but this really impressed me with how well done the progressions on a lot of these tracks are. Especially on the first track; judging by the first few minutes, I was worried this was going to be some abstract minimalist take ... read more

Nice slowcore / post-rock album to return to this never ending post-whatever 2023 list.

They are so fucking good at delivering what Slint could have been.
And no, they aren't just a good spiritual successor, of course they add their touch, in fact, they are usually cleaner without sounding sterile.
Their first album is one of my favs from 2022, glad to see they delivered something almost as good with less than a year of difference.
Keep it up deathcrash lads, really loving this.

Not the album to beat the *insert similar and superior '90s band name here* clone allegations with, but an improvement over their debut with less fat and more focus.

Favorite tracks: Empty Heavy, And Now I Am Lit, Duffy's, Turn

Fantastic, i've never heard a slowcore record before, although i'm familiar with its name. Haunting, melancholic and dreamlike, Less puts you in its own set of pace, in its own mindset. It's beautiful and very powerful.

Despite it's enchantingly sombre sound and message, Less doesn't fully fill the space it set out to encompass.

deathcrash was a band I knew nothing about, nor did I know anything about the slowcore sound at all. So I decided to listen to this project to see how this genre sounds, and whether deathcrash did it justice. And for the most part they do. The opener Pirouette is a sombre and slow moving introduction that conveys the sound and theme of this entire project condensed into one neat ... read more

This has some good vibes to it I just feel like it drags on and loses it's flare around the third track.

I love the gentle instrumentation and the atmosphere it creates. The sparse production definitely works in their favor, making every punch of emotion ever more striking. I do find the whispery vocals a little grating at times, and a couple tracks feel a little redundant. These tracks miss that special something that makes them stand out, something I find really important on a project like this.

Favorites: Pirouette, Empty Heavy, Distance Song

Least Favorites: And Now I Am Lit, Turn
