The Rolling Stones finally delivered a set of all-original material with this LP, which also did much to define the group as the bad boys of rock & roll with their sneering attitude toward the world in general and the female sex in particular.

It's blues-rock flower power, but all the flowers are painted black, with Brian's marimba and dulcimer adding color to these tough, lean, desperately lonely songs.

The History of the Albums – n°298

With the brilliant Aftermath, not only did the Rolling Stones stay the course in the face of fierce competition, but they also gave us their first undisputed classic. It's a little bit the day when the Stones went from simple interpreters to genius musicians. If we compare retrospective analyses with today's analysis, we can observe a two-fold phenomenon that is rarely found in new releases. The US reissue cut out four tracks to make room for the mega hit and all-time classic (as well as my vote for absolute best Rolling Stone song), Paint It, Black.

"Aftermath" is the first album from The Rolling Stones which only comprises of original compositions, inspired by The Beatles' groundbreaking "Rubber Soul". With this record, they travelled into a more rock-inspired direction that replicates the ... read more

Aftermath (UK Version)

I'm pretty mad that Paint It Black isn't on this album.

Overall: 62/100 (Weighted Score of all Songs)
1. Mother's Little Helper 75/100
The guitar feels a little psychedelic.
2. Stupid Girl 50/100
This song is stupid.
3. Lady Jane 70/100
Usually not a fan of their calm songs but the acoustic guitar helps a lot.
4. Under My Thumb 85/100
This song is carrying the UK version in the absence of Paint It Black.
5. Doncha Bother Me 70/100
The guitar is memorable. Also nice ... read more

Review #72 The Rolling Stones - Aftermath:
It's a pretty standard album for the genre, and I don't think the songs are engaging enough for the album to be anything more than mediocre. the first song Is a certified banger tho.
