The Rolling Stones finally delivered a set of all-original material with this LP, which also did much to define the group as the bad boys of rock & roll with their sneering attitude toward the world in general and the female sex in particular.

It's blues-rock flower power, but all the flowers are painted black, with Brian's marimba and dulcimer adding color to these tough, lean, desperately lonely songs.

The Stones finally release their first album of entirely Mick Jagger–Keith Richards compositions. Brian Jones adds some amazing touches as the Stones delve into new styles.

Tracklist found here is the UK version... The US version cut "Out of Time", "Take It or Leave It", "What to Do", and "Mother's Little Helper" while adding the legendary single "Paint It, Black".

A much better introduction to the sound of The Rolling Stones compared to their previous work, showing off their songwriting abilities across the whole record rather than a few select tracks. The groups sound remains intact, but is more original in feeling and suggests that the group are capable of holding their own musically and creatively. Although not the best of the groups work from my perspective, this is far more inventive and gives me hope that the records will continue to improve on ... read more

One of the Rolling Stones' earlier releases manages to capture their swagger but it doesn't quite capture their brilliance. Many of these songs are forgettable and the ones that are good lack the genius that we find on songs like "Paint It, Black" and "Ruby Tuesday". Not a bad record by any stretch of the imagination, it's just a tad lackluster.
