Can't Maintain is the third album from AJJ that shows them experimenting with more minimalistic sounds and a lot of heavier sounds as well whilst also talking about a love that went wrong. In my opinion I just wanna give Sean Bonnette a hug after this.

*Edit: no longer my favorite ajj album.*
I think this is their best album. Maybe a controversial opinion? Sure, there are some musical detours that make me ask why, such as the kazoo sonata, but the highs are so fucking amazing. This album is slightly more of a mixed bag when it comes to lyrical themes than the previous album. Which I actually like, I like the variety. Also that album art... that’s beautiful.

Where AJJ's rabbit album was about the nature/actions of mankind and others, Can't Maintain does the exact opposite by looking completely inwards instead of outwards. Contrasting the observational nature of their previous album, this release deals with personal topics of self-worth and inner thoughts, posing questions to the listeners about the artist himself rather than directing them towards a world with a better mankind.

Taking this darker sheen in sound from the more aggressive ... read more
