This was a fun and predictably brutal record to stick on and enjoy on my Friday night. On Judiciary's second album, Flesh + Blood, they build on 2019's Surface Noise and refine their metal-tinged hardcore. The record begins with the great Flesh and Blood, which flow perfectly into one another with a lot of fury and intensity. Flesh + Blood is possible the most tasteful advancement of the genre for a while. So many aspects of the album has you grooving traditionally and you will catch a pepper of advanced playing here and there. A quick guitar sweep there, a unique breakdown here, a fusion of clean vocals that is a bit unorthodox. The advancements are never jarring enough to form an opinion on. They are blended craftily like a hardcore soup from a french chef.
After a 5 year silence, Judiciary return with a fury in their hearts. Not my absolutely favorite of the recent metalcore I have heard, but it is up there. The riffs are sick, particularly the opening of Blood, parts of Engulfed, Knife in the Dirt. There are good guitar solos which you don't hear very often these days (Cobalt).
