The Skinny

Tonally, Mockasin and Eastgate are at home within the realms of cheeky sensuality ... If there’s a narrative flowing through the album, though, it’s lost in the glittery melting pot of tongue-in-cheek lyricism, hedonistic pop, and avant-garde surrealism.

NME

More than anything else, ‘Soft Hair’ is about intimacy, creativity and a zest for life – two singular musicians liberated by collaboration.

The Line of Best Fit

This is unashamedly fun music from two of the most interesting musicians around, and being brought along for the ride is a worthwhile experience.

Loud and Quiet

Continuity comes in its exotic feel – largely rooted in hallucinogenic funk, bar a couple of psychedelic instrumentals – and in the comforting presence of the pair’s distinctive and complementary quirks, from Dust’s tropical, cut-and-paste percussion to Mockasin’s drunk guitars and helium croon.

Clash

Ultimately Soft Hair is the sound of two musicians filling in each other’s blanks while only seeing the best in each other. When it works, it’s captivating.

The Guardian

Delightfully weird and yet unmistakably icky.

DIY

The falsetto of Mockasin and the electronic sounds of Dust marry perfectly into something stunningly weird; the kind of marriage where’d you wear multi-colour suits and dresses and tuck into an inflatable cake.

AllMusic

There are clever parts strewn throughout and some of the more ambient instrumental tracks like "i.v." and "l.i.v." are quite nice, but overall, the songs themselves don't have quite enough going for them to support the album's quirky intentions.

☆☆½ ~ I have some kind of ambivalence about the whole album concept. Lacks too much.
