While the first two albums suffered from being pretty much just run-of-the-mill R.E.M. (if that makes sense), this album just fully embraces the musics ugliness and its shitty production comes to its benefit.

The first two tracks “Feeling Gravitys Pull” and “Maps and Legends” both show this sound quite well. While the music is still R.E.M.-esque, it almost seemed like R.E.M. just gave up on ... read more

As I listened to this in the womb I just felt the treble and drum. Michael Stipe’s androgynous vocals feeling urgent. Did this make me an alternative gay? Perhaps…

Now I’m 38 and hearing Fables of the Reconstruction for the third time.
I like the variety and the vocals are great. I haven’t gotten into the lyrics yet. There might be like two snoozers but overall the album is dynamic and fascinating. The sound is fairly unique yet still feels familiar.
