Her voice sounds super annoying to me, and overly, the track comes off as basic and boring. There's nothing here of value to me. Onto the next.
Damn, kicks in intro hit hard on my PTSD and I got so much scared of them, thinking that these were the sounds of a rocket or artillery attack outside. But in general, thanks for not musically plagiarizing Björk, how you did with the visuals, but just attempting to imitate her.
I don't understand that people have found a unique sound in this song. Pretty average, nothing remarkable instrumental and kinda boring. I think it's still the same Melanie Martinez, but with a different concept.
First off, I really like the intro to this song, I think it sets up everything else very well, and it defiantly works. Her vocals are alright, better than her other projects and with some cool effects, but nothing great. The strings in the background are a great touch too. Sadly, the back from the dead book is pretty bad, which is a shame because the instrumental I’d really good. I like the blasts of distortion too. Replace the hook with something else, and you have a pretty great song ... read more
to all the people who don't like her...you should hear this! unlike anything else in her career, very good production, good chorus, very unique beginning with a Melanie touch. She was also the composer and producer of this song: ARTIST.
MOTHER IS BACK.
i knew just from the snippet that this song would be amazing and i was not disappointed. melanie’s best single yet and definitely top 5 in her discography. i am so excited for this new era and new album. i’m loving the new direction musically, too. this is a masterpiece.
this song is extremely artistic and not like any other music we hear today. martinez co-produced and self-wrote this masterpiece which shows how truly talented she is. this song has beautiful song harmonies as well as dark beats which mixes together to create a beautiful piece of music. the beat drop is absolutely amazing and this song goes so hard. very experimental and a beautiful song. highly recommend anyone who hasn't heard her music to give this song a try first!
"i am a different artist than i was when i was 19," then why are you recycling the same lyrical themes and production? this song is so embarrassingly boring, but it isn't offensive, i can have this on in the background and as long as i don't tune into the boring lyrics its fine.
it is sad i can confidently say i have higher expectations for a madison beer song than i do a melanie martinez song in 2023, so much so that shes trying to copy her and then use björk's unique and ... read more
A very welcome return for Melanie Martinez who, over her career so far, has made some pretty fantastic and infectious off kilter pop that is filled to the brim with storytelling and visuals. Death is no exception, having this great build up to the clashy and chaotic chorus which is a slight departure from her usual sound. I love it. Very excited to see what rabbit hole this new era and album will take us.
This progressive, somewhat noisy, hyperpop-adjacent sound is a very interesting change of pace for Melanie. I commend the experimentation and the growth shown in the lyrics, but I'm not 100% sold on it as a song just because I didn't find it engaging ALL the way through. Definitely a step into the right direction though. The only thing I REALLY DISLIKED about the song was the sort of distorted autotuned screams of ''DEAAAATHH!!'' in the post-chorus but that's about it, everything else ranges ... read more
