DIY
For a project that could have held unreasonable expectations, it overdelivers time and time again.

I’m going to listen to Garbage Pale Kids while I handwash dishes and I bet half the water that started in the sink will end up on the kitchen floor because of it.

Still Listening

SCARING THE HOES is a celebration of experimental and underground hip-hop by two of the genre’s lead pioneers.

90
AllMusic
It's crowded, confusing, ridiculous music, but despite its scary intentions, the album's renegade production and impressive performances make it more exciting than frightening.
90
The Line of Best Fit
A compilation of wicked, synaptic beats bleeding together in the more welcoming moments, but for the most part this is a project that deals in one thing and one thing only – frantic energy.

Exclaim!

With Scaring the Hoes, the pair have come forth with a dizzying collection of songs that feel like an all-out assault on the senses. It's a frantic affair that spits in the face of convention and serves up a massive middle finger to the modern landscape of hip-hop and its genre tropes.

Clash
A nerve-jangling experience, it could well rank as their masterpiece.

Rolling Stone
The Detroit rapper and eccentric electronic producer create blistering chaos, reflecting a world on the edge.
80
The Guardian
New York’s Jpegmafia and Detroit’s Danny Brown transmit from hip-hop’s hinterland, in a bacchanal of inspired noise and topical chat that’s the definition of ‘not for everybody’.

HipHopDX

Mind-melting and impossible to turn down, Scaring the Hoes is a musical open-palm smack. It’s fun and inventive; a mashup of experimental Hip Hop that harnesses a truly demented collection of sounds and influences from 80s commercials to gospel chorus.

Pitchfork
The iconoclastic rappers collide on a JPEG-produced joint album that plays things fast and loose.

musicOMH
Peggy and Danny give us wacky production, no-holds-barred lyrics and madcap chemistry on their joint album. And they call this a practice session.
70
Spectrum Culture
Technical flaws be damned, Brown and Peggy came together to give the fans exactly what they want, and the hoes what they don’t.

Lost my girlfriend after showing her this but all I needed was Danny Brown and Pegging to be satisfied

Edit: guys it was autocorrect i swear 😭😭😭

Hoes are temporary, if you don’t like this album? You’re scaring the bros.

It is an understatement that a rap duo of this magnitude was a great idea. The idea of a JPEGMAFIA x Danny Brown record transcends an idea, it was almost destined to be, and was undoubtedly going to be great. With glimpses of their chemistry being ... read more

Not what I expected

It's a mess. The mixing is ass (intentionally I think for a lot of parts). There is barely a balance between the work Danny puts in and Peggy puts in...

but also I really enjoy the full experience. It is a great overall listen that comes off way more like an experimental experience more than anything. It is wild and creative. The good heavily outweighs the bad. It certainly could have been done with more clarity, but as is, it feels like a dusty old tape you'd find at the ... read more
