My Shame Is True brings together all of the band's most commercial and personal inclinations to bear on some of the best songs of its career.
Across this LP's twelve tracks there is a barely a duff moment and the scary thing is it is hard to see the band ever losing that ability, so long is their streak of consistency.
Although this isn’t a punk classic, My Shame Is True comes out swinging as Alkaline Trio’s strongest effort since 2008’s Agony & Irony.
The long-running Chicago trio has set an even lower bar for so-called darkness: basically, monochromatic, by-the-numbers pop-punk with the occasional hint of minor-key moodiness
An incredible comeback!
This album is a breath of fresh air after what was Alkaline Trio's worst project, at least in my opinion. But even putting that album aside, this is a DAMN good record! To say that great albums come from personal tragedy may be a dangerous view to hold, however, if you wanted to make a case for it, I could definitely point you to this album. Great energy and hooks sprinkled throughout the album, but nothing the band has never done before.
There are some fucking bangers on it, but there are too many forgettable cuts to really give it a high rating
