Evening Standard
The last album was weird and alienating, this one is also weird and absolutely wonderful.

DIY
Like no other exploration of grief - a new magnum opus.

The Guardian
A howl of despair sublimated into beautiful experimental pop, the artist’s fourth album is his best yet.

The Line of Best Fit

At almost 100 minutes, Chris’ most astounding work yet expands his craftsmanship to territories surprisingly well-suited for him. He grips on to hope as angels do to their wings, and it’s unlikely that he’ll ever let go.

Beats Per Minute

Double and triple albums naturally sprawl, yet there’s an unexpected compactness to PARANOÏA. An unabridged Angels In America spans two, four-hour parts and was not only about AIDS, so the door was open for Chris to keep pulling on thread. It should be underscored that PARANOÏA is not the play, and is occasionally indulgent.

Dork
There are so many captivating sounds that unfurl and gently spool out. The BPM count is largely low, but you’re not coming here for bangers; you’re coming to be spiritually uplifted or to reckon with heartbreak. Grief is central to the album.

The Skinny
Christine and the Queens’ immersive fourth studio album balances sinister and sweet sensibilities, remaining remarkably cohesive throughout.

Rolling Stone
On the masterful 'Paranoïa, Angels, True Love,' the French artist makes sense of grief and communes with heavenly bodies as he climbs toward transcendence.
80
Clash
A record composed of experimental dissonance and slick pop bravery, ‘PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE’ ranks as the boldest aspect of his career to date. A project that searches for honesty, it places Christine and the Queens in a quite singular lane of alt-pop abstraction.

Northern Transmissions
It’s a powerful testament to the power of healing through writing music and Redcar’s ability to take several ideas and pack them into one genre-bending and thoughtful experience.
70
Slant Magazine
The album is the culmination of the French singer’s ambitious approach to pop conventions.

Loud and Quiet

PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE reckons painfully with loss, desperately seeking meaning as it thrashes towards the shore. An immersive if demanding listen, it positions death as the ultimate piece of theatre – and one which definitely won’t come with CliffsNotes.

AllMusic
Even if it's missing some of the electrifying immediacy of those works, there's a lot of challenging and emotionally powerful music here for fans to appreciate.

Pitchfork

Inspired by Angels in America, the French artist’s latest album is a raw, dreamlike, 20-song epic that still feels like a first draft.

60
The Independent
The French star teams up with Madonna, samples a 17th-century composer, and takes inspiration from ‘Angels in America’ on this sprawling, occasionally self-indulgent record.
60
NME
Presented as a 96-minute opera featuring guest spots from Madonna and 070 Shake, the French artist's fourth studio album is often weighed down by its own folly.
60
The Telegraph

There are many absolutely gorgeous moments … But the overwhelming mood is oppressive as it proceeds at a relentlessly mid tempo pace like a kind of stately march towards ecstatic sexual release, frequently building to bombastic quasi-religious choral electro goth climaxes, with crunching drums, overloaded vocals and wailing lead guitar.

60
The Arts Desk
The tone is serious, not playful, and the sonic palette epic and sombre.

Three discs of music loosely based on Angels In America is easier to admire than to enjoy, but you can’t fault the ambition.

This is some kind of soundtrack to an art-pop opera, stylistically it is experimental popular music, almost the entire recording is ambient, I want to say that this album is the culmination of the work of the French artist.
