The influence of groups like Tangerine Dream -and Vangelis is still audible, but Structures from Silence is its own notable peak, the first of many astonishing highlights for Roach.
EDIT: Yeah, I think this just might be my favorite album OAT.
So, I spent the last month listening to, apart from new releases, nothing but ambient music. I also decided not to rate/review many things until the end of the month, as I've gotten way too attached to this site in recent months. Holding off on the ratings had allowed me to prevent obsessing over checking this site every day, and worrying about always having to put out a review constantly. It's honestly been a really refreshing ... read more
A thought-provoking title laid over a simple yet calmingly beautiful cover was what intrigued me. I'd wanted to hear this record for a long time, so a few weeks ago I finally decided to put it on as I laid in bed. It was pleasant. I'm always up for some peaceful and pretty synth-driven ambient music! But it was nothing more than just that: pleasant.
That was until last night. I got home tired from a night-out at around 1AM. I remembered that I still hadn't finalized my thoughts on this album, ... read more
I want to start this review off by stating how I listen to most ambient albums like this. You see, I usually put ambient music on when I draw, or I go to sleep. One of the great questions that has struck humanity for eons is whether or not there is an after-life. Some have created elaborate theories of what lies beyond this realm, others deny any other dimension of existence besides our own (there are even those who believe that this reality ... read more
Just stunning ambient work- just the right touch of bliss with dissonance, especially with the last track. There’s a remote calmness that oozes from the synth heavy sound palette- it felt like my brain was being deep cleaned.
It’s been in my heavy rotation of ambient albums to sleep/study to for a while now, and is definitely deserving of being one of my favourite ambient albums ever.
Extremely beautiful without overdoing it. I completely adore how lush this album is and I think it's fascinating how that sense of density is achieved via washes of cold synths rather than a traditional method. It's simultaneously so cold and desolate while still being beautiful of comforting; very interesting. The actual execution of the music is good with it sometimes running too long or with too little variation, but such is the way of Ambient music, so I can't complain too ... read more
