I can see why the vocal can be a turn-off for some. It kinda is when I first listened to her years ago and it takes awhile to get used to it. But I can't see how it fully destroys everything since even for how high-pitched her voice is, she's still a good technical singer. She's capable of delivering good melody, a versatile rapper, and commands the beat very well despite how varying the tempo and style that she offers. She doesn't oversing either, so I guess give it more try once you're ready.
I don’t really know what Melon sees in this tbh. I liked the vibes and the sound of the music, but absolutely hated the vocals that came with it. Only really found like 3 songs that I really liked
I know he'll love it, but a 9/10 is an unexpected one. He rarely give a mainstream-leaning pop album a 9.
The closest one we got is Ware's WYP which is around 3 years ago. You can make the case for Charli too (kinda expecting Renaissance to snatch that one too but not quite there).
Pleasant surprise, rarely cared about score but I'm glad more popular critics are keeping an eye on Amaarae.
