At times emotionally pure, at others sounding like an aural orgasm, this is a work of music that most bands would be forced to hold their hands up to and admit that they just don't have the creativity to even begin thinking about making an album like this.

Maggot Brain was an explosive record, bursting at the seams with exactly the kind of larger than life sound a band called Funkadelic should have made.

Maybe we will never know what Maggot Brain is about. Maybe it's about how messed up the world is. Maybe it isn't about anything at all. But, damn, it funks me up.

Just to put this out there. The guitar solo masterpiece that is "Maggot Brain" does not appear in the 50 greatest guitar solos by guitarworld.com, Greatest Guitar Solos by thetoptens.com, 7 of the Best: Guitar Solos by clash music.com, 50 Greatest Guitar Solos by NME.com and the list goes on and on and on and fucking on. Point is, it should at least be in the top 3 of any list of greatest guitar solos. Such injustice in the world

However, with this record the band mashed psychedelic rock/funk and soul and gave us a perfection that transcended the sound many decades after that. The ... read more
