If Mark E Smith managed to get the talking heads to join the fall this would be the product.
This album is a good time. And it's a good time that lasts for a long while, however, you need to be in the right mindset to be able to sit through the whole album, and it's not always you're in that necessary state of mind.
How can a double album containing 45 distinct tracks be so utterly and consistently enjoyable? The instrumentation is very tight and simply excellent, the influence of funk and jazz (free and otherwise) all over them. It is very stylistically varied: moving from punkier numbers to quieter pieces to even more experimental ones (at least in this album's context and the Minutemen's work overall). Although this album has the vibe of something I would greatly enjoy, I've seen it pulled off better than here. The biggest issue with this album is essentially the setup - the album comes in at a massive hour and fifteen minutes and 43 tracks, with only a handful of tracks reaching over the two minute mark.
