HipHopDX

In the end, woods returns home, road weary and eager for comfort, but his mind refuses to stay still.

Beats Per Minute

With all its richness, all its nuance and double entendre, its cultural observations on food, its constant pleasant weed smell, its soft jazzy beats, its political concerns on black self-sabotage and sexy metaphors, it’s hard to argue that Maps isn’t billy woods’ strongest album to date.

Loud and Quiet

Maps is full of these narrative knife-twists. During an incredible mid-career streak that’s lasted about seven records, Woods is at his frankest.

The Line of Best Fit

Maps is an album of sheer restlessness. In half-sketched scenes scattered through seventeen tracks, here is a protagonist who is perpetually on planes, in Ubers, or alone in hotels, staggering down to afterparties filled with hipsters and cut glasses.

Clash
The album sought escape in isolation, a hermetic retreat from the outer world.

Pitchfork
The New York rapper reconnects with the Los Angeles producer for a masterful road-trip album. Humor and dread, weed and food, technique and style—billy woods is in full command of it all.

On their much-anticipated reunion, Kenny Segal, a true and varied talent in and of himself, has a firm grasp on the gift that billy woods possesses, and has doubled down on his instinct to assist, to foreground the whims of a true poet in prime form. billy woods takes the bearing, and we follow.

Rolling Stone

Enigmatic Brooklyn rapper's second LP with beatmaker Kenny Segal is a dizzying listen.

Spectrum Culture
woods still isn’t inviting, but there’s a humanizing element to hearing a man who’s spent so long describing the world’s evils open up about love.

The Needle Drop
Even better than the duo's previous collab!

Mojo
NYC rapper and LA producer’s second duo LP explores travel via the darkest vistas.

AllMusic

Maps is one of woods' most accessible and relatable efforts, containing some of his clearest, most vivid narratives.

Billy Woods: John Ants danced and pranced around plants by chance he glanced at sycophants chants
And then he shit his pants!

*Sample of a random sax solo from a 1971 Avant-Prog song*

There are very few rappers who I can commend more than billy woods; from his work with E L U C I D under the Armand Hammer name to his own solo material, he never fails to provide his listeners with the most provocative, mentally stimulating content hip-hop has to offer. His wordy, often compellingly verbose, ... read more

Don’t know why they named an album off of a Maroon 5 song but hey gotta respect the grind 🫡

Ah man, Billy Woods, Billy, Billy, Billy. Billy is a silly name. But I found that this album is even silier, but in a good sense. When I think of modern abstract hip hop, it’s albums like these that embrace that stereotype and run with it.

Now this isn’t the first time Billy has made a collab album with producer Kenny Segal, their original album is called “Hiding ... read more

The hoes are scared once again! Wow, This shit blew my expectations out of the water, And I had some respectably high expectations going into this album. Billy woods is a name I've been familiar with for a while now, And I wanted to check his stuff out but haven't really got the chance. And god damn this motherfucker is good.

This album is incredible but not in the way I expected it to be, I guess I was expecting tons of bangers, And I mean... Yeah it has bangers but not in the traditional way ... read more

Another great album from this man. I don’t think it’s a good a aethiopes but he definitely released another underground classic with this.

Can't say I'm head over heels for this one but it's another W for Billy.
