The Independent
Teeming with appearances from acts including Channel Tres and Roots Manuva, Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland’s new record no longer sees the pair uneasily centre stage.

AllMusic

These tracks, as with all of Volcano, sound like a lost '80s mixtape collaboration.

DIY
More breezy bops than all-out summer smashes, but nevertheless extremely rich and warm in sound.

The Line of Best Fit

Exploring a whole new sphere of genres, eras and musical styles, Volcano's unexpected twists and turns place Jungle at their peak of most progressive yet.

80
Clash
A focussed, unified return, ‘Volcano’ doffs its cap to some supreme influences, while also allowing Jungle to expand, and evolve.

Mojo

Volcano continues where 2021's Loving In Stereo left off.

Dork
If there’s one thing a Jungle record is going to do, it’s make you feel good – and ‘Volcano’ is no exception. As laidback ‘Pretty Little Thing’ featuring Bas brings the album to a joyful yet sentimental close, one is left with the feeling that the project is, indeed, a summer success.

Evening Standard
Their music goes down like a cool drink on a summer day.
70
Uncut
The result sees them maintain high energy levels while showing off a richer musical palette and a keener sense of flow.

Northern Transmissions

Volcano arrives at a perfect time, soundtracking the end of summer in such a way that you could hear it on long vacation drives, or at barbecues, bonfires and the like.

60
NME
The duo’s fourth album sees them nail down their sound and vibes, but often struggles to do the soul it looks to evoke justice.

God Is in the TV

Volcano might be a bamboozling experience for long-term fans of Jungle but like the type of mountain that the album title references, it erupts with blazing intensity.

60
The Observer
This confident but formulaic fourth outing from the UK dance duo mixes 70s funk breakbeats, wistful guitar soul and euphoric disco.
60
Record Collector
Frenetic bass workout Coming Back and a bewitching cameo from the recently elusive Roots Manuva on similarly hectic You Ain’t No Celebrity shine among the laidback tiki vibes. At worst, it’s an ageing raver’s comedown, at best – Back On 74’s unpredictable pulse – it’s as blissful as The Avalanches.

The Irish Times
The British producer duo’s return is buoyed by vocal collaborators including Channel Tres and Roots Manuva.

It's just another JUNGLE album that you can listen to on Spotify playlists without feeling bad about it.

Honestly made me agitated after a while, good music for holiday resorts, BBQ and Iphone adverts though.

For real though this is good background music, probably made for summer spotify playlists were you dont hear the whole album at once lol

solid album to vibe and set a mood, with a couple of strong tracks that really convey a summery vibe that feels rich and upbeat. it’s a mood-booster for sure, but it’s not super consistent as there is a noticeable dip in quality around the midpoint where things lose their pace and ultimately ends up forgettable. but when the vibes are strong, they are strong. front loaded for sure, but it delivers in its best.

full disclosure though, because midway i started writing a journal ... read more

Despite occasionally feeling derivative of Kaytranada-type sounds. there's some cool stuff going on.

I will say, it is one of the most album-feeling things I've heard all year, and the flow is good.

However, a lot of the high-pitched sampling comes across as annoying, especially near the start. A few more features would've done good to cover up, I suppose.

Not bad, but I'm not craving to return to it.

It's great you're enjoying Jungle's music! They're a very talented and innovative group that's definitely pushing the boundaries of soul music. Their album "Volcano" is a masterpiece, and I'm glad you're giving it a 100%.
One of the things I love about Jungle is their ability to blend classic soul sounds with modern production techniques. They're able to create music that's both nostalgic and fresh, and they never sound like they're trying too hard.

Groovy funky music. It is very smooth and has a lovely uplifting and easygoing vibe to it. A very polished sound. I particularly enjoyed 'Dominoes'.
