Madonna displays a commanding sense of songcraft, making this her best and most consistent album.
Slant Magazine

Like a Prayer found the pop singer coming-of-age with a collection of pop confections layered with live instrumentation, sophisticated arrangements, deeply felt lyrics, and a stronger, more assured vocal.

Entertainment Weekly
The gospel-infused title track demonstrates that her writing and performing had been raised to heavenly new heights. And if little else here soars to that level, at least ”Oh Father” sees her beginning to write her autobiography in song.
Rolling Stone

Like a Prayer is proof not only that Madonna should be taken seriously as an artist but that hers is one of the most compelling voices of the Eighties.

Arguably her most personal piece of work, Like A Prayer transcended Madonna from being a monumental pop star to a pop goddess

I’ll never forget the moment my dad told me In front of my stepmom and sister when I was 9 or 10, In his usual bitter tone “I hate Madonna”. Me and my sister asked why? and his hypocrite ass and very “christian” self responded, “Cause she once posed nude with nothing but some cross earrings on” lmao.

If you take a deeper look down to history, Madonna was desperate about a marriage ending, the 30’s arrival (age that her mother died) and to prove herself she was a real respectful mature singer and producer. These agonies created a consistent album full of guitar riffs and great choruses. The title track is a piece of art that finally killed the material girl persona, mixing gospel music and great pop and then liturgical and sexual lyrics. Express Yourself tells all women to respect ... read more
The epic finale of Madonna's first decade. Like a Prayer is dripping with catchy hooks, infectious beats, and iconic lyrics. The fact that the first two songs are 'Like a Prayer' into 'Express Yourself' is mind-boggling to me as they both help define the entire decade. While it doesn't have the tightness of her later albums, Like a Prayer is the most fun and the best to pull out for a party, people will think it is the greatest hits! 'Dear Jessie' is probably my favorite underrated song from ... read more
A true milestone in POP music. Like a Prayer is the highlight of Madonna's career along with Ray of Light. Everything on the album makes sense, from the lyrics to the arrangements.
