If the blues survived because of the oral tradition of passing down songs from one singer to another, Violent Femmes endured because the tunes were shared via word of mouth at dorm parties and high school keggers.

For my 1,000th rating, I want to review one of my personnal favorite albums...

Violent Femmes' "Violent Femmes", the debut and best album of this band, which has become legendary, is a masterpiece of anticonformism and rebellion. The catchiest mental breakdown in music history. How this record is continuously snubbed from lists of the best punk records of all time, and the best records of all time in general, by publications like Rolling Stone is baffling. Ahead of its time in so many ways, and infectious to a degree that shouldn't even be possible, the Violent Femmes' self-titled debut is one of those special records that reaffirms my deep love for the mere existence of music every time I hear it.
my first introduction to folk punk, and i'd say it was a damn good introduction

Folk punk jams. This stuff just hits hard and is musically pleasing, and also is one of the most iconic folk punk records ever. Songs like Kiss Off feel so fun yet sad. The bridge Is so great and Agh it’s so good. Add It Up is another great one with his wailing at the start, and it eventually building up. Listened to this while doing the SJO. It was Ight. First song was obviously the best one so it makes the rest kinda disappointing.

Edit: I mean seriously does anybody care or remember any song besides "Blister in the Sun" because I sure don't.
