If the blues survived because of the oral tradition of passing down songs from one singer to another, Violent Femmes endured because the tunes were shared via word of mouth at dorm parties and high school keggers.

A classic album that I don't entirely feel fully delivers with everything it offers, and could get a slight bit redundant after many listens, but has an iconic and catchy sound I identify with only this group at this time. I love the tracks where Gordon wears a more punk, spunked delivery, it pairs nicely, and like I said, is iconic with the groups more acoustic, folk-inspired instrumentation, fairly unorthodox too at times. I return to this fairly often.

These three "Femmes" from Milwaukee, who, by the way, are not violent but full of energy, have realized the strength of simplicity and used it so aptly in their debut, a collection of catchy, folk-punk tunes that forced everybody, tenagers and adults, to get up and look for blisters in the sun.
