Certainly dated, but that doesn't mean it's not still a quality, important album.

it was a good album that had a lot of impact on where the gangsta rap scene and rap game as a whole would be today. although i do find that some people rate it a tiny bit too high.

There is rebellious rock, rebellious pop, rebellious punk, and then there is Straight Outta Compton, the crowned king of rebellious rap records. Easily one of the most iconic albums of its kind, Straight Outta Compton hits hard with tracks that you can’t help but turn up as loud as they can go and lyrics that you can’t help but rap along to. Truly great stuff.

At the time, this was one of the most influential hip hop records of all time, and it still is. N.W.A. have a lot of good chemistry. Their perspectives on gangster life are very compelling and there is a lot of grit with Straight Outta Compton. You can feel and hear how these young MCs feel about their community and world. Even with that in mind, the number one problem with this record is its age. It has not aged well and the production and flow of the album just comes off as awkward nowadays. ... read more

Many of these tracks hit hard, but then others just feel like the standard affair from Hip Hop from this era. This is especially true of Easy E, who I would recognize as the weak link of the outfit who got a little bit too much exposure on this record for my taste. Had more tracks featured exclusive hits from Ice Cube or Dre I probably would have ended up rating this much higher, but it just wasn't my favorite hip hop record I've listened to this year. I recognize its influence and the power it ... read more

One of the most influential rap records of the 1980's revolutionizing the Gangsta-Rap genre with its "brutally honest" subject matter and raw hard hitting beats from Dr. Dre. A near perfect album with the exception of the final track "Something 2 Dance 2" an eyesore of the album.

Very raw and passionate. Would get a perfect score except the last track "Something 2 Dance 2" is out of place and does not fit in with the other bangers in this album.

An influential record in the hip-hop scene that is however pretty dated.

After a relatively pale debut, the infamous hip-hop collective released their masterpiece, and with it, helped create what would soon after be called gangster-rap. Although the production and even some of the verses on this record sound dated today, there is no denial that this is a highly relevant work in popular music History, trespassing social barriers that stood firm at the time it was released, and definitely putting Compton under the limelights of hip-hop as we know it today. It is ... read more
