The 87 years old mistress of British folk music Shirley Collins surprises nearly 40 years after her last release with three albums within seven years (2016, 2020, 2023). The recent one convince with thirteen traditional sounding tracks, among them one instrumental and a live recording from 1980. With Archangel Hill Shirley Collins demonstrates that one don't need everytimes new stuff to create wonderful new things.

Let me explain: how she can sing to in the oldest age in 87. Even she can write song with expectably folk nature and the vocals can manage through her bigger words deeply. The production was great too. I respect her to manage she can do it without the labels force her out in a album. Need more time with it, but so far, I weirdly like it. Shirley's vocal performance is clearly a singer struggling with their age but it's wholesome, and respectable. Kind of charming actually. Reminds me of the kind of my grandparents really. Weirdly nostalgic but not sure exactly what part of this album is what does that for me. Not every track grabs me, but I need time to read through the lyrics.
