A.V. Club

It shows that Crutchfield has always been a star. Tourist In This Town is just the coming-out party.

Exclaim!

She's turned that feeling into an album as glittery as it is gut-wrenching, making Tourist in This Town a point on the musical map that's well worth a long, enriching stay.

80
AllMusic

Allison Crutchfield isn't forgetting anything that went wrong on Tourist in This Town, but even if the wounds seem fresh, the theme is learning from what went wrong, and this album is the work of a woman who knows plenty and has the talent and desire to make something worthwhile out of the drama.

80
The Skinny

Allison’s debut Tourist in This Town shows she certainly has the potential to go it alone too, provided it’s on her own terms.

80
The Guardian

It’s not a hard listen: songs such as Secret Lives and Deaths and I Don’t Ever Wanna Leave California are uplifting pop confections.

80
The 405

Allison Crutchfield has proven her poetry is a force to be reckoned with. She is able to take words coming from a place so personal and place them in a pattern that anyone with a heart can relate to.

80
musicOMH

Despite the sadness and regret that seeps through each song, there’s a hopefulness too, a sense of resilience that everything will eventually be okay.

78
Pitchfork

Allison Crutchfield’s debut solo LP jettisons punky guitars for pirouetting synths, vast open spaces, and lyrics that explore haunted memories and still-fresh heartache.

75
The Line of Best Fit

Tourist In This Town is Crutchfield shedding this baggage. It’s perhaps more cathartic for her than anyone else. But there’s always something here that you can relate to in some part.

70
No Ripcord

While the album may appear light, don't take that to mean it's fluffy. The buoyant atmosphere masks the pain and drama of a failed relationship.

60
DIY
The visceral, in-the-moment recording at times gives the record a life and character that feels charming and personal, but elsewhere feels a little too rushed, and being a little heavy-handed in the use of synths and backing results in sensory overload and slightly jarring instrumental clashes.
60
GIGsoup

Allison certainly has an intriguing story to tell, doing so descriptively and poetically with candour and seeming utter genuineness.

50
Loud and Quiet

The opening sixty seconds of Allison Crutchfield’s debut album are a thing of real beauty ... Then it all, somehow, goes spectacularly wrong, exploding into what feels like a heavy dose of teen angst by numbers.

Overall Opinion: While I am not huge on all the synth work this was my favorite album through January and deserves a proper listen and grading. It is now July and the tunes are still pretty fresh & exciting but ... read more

双子の姉Waxahatcheeに負けず劣らずの歌心とポップネス、そしてなにより引き出しの多さに驚かされるパーフェクトなデビューアルバム。

Synths go over surprisingly well for the punk rocker and frontwoman of Swearin. I still like her voice, some songs have production issues, and nothing is really really good (except maybe the opening track), but still solid album.
