This album feels like a dynamic shift for The Menzingers where their sound becomes a bit brighter and more intentionally catchy than ever. One could even argue that this falls into the realm of pop punk, where the energy delivered is far more bubbly and fun than the group have ever delivered. They still have their roots about them, but they seem willing here to expand on their sound and do something different with it. Once again, the songs pretty consistently deliver and give the listener the ... read more

The only thing that The Menzingers got consistently right on this album were strong melodic lines, and the overall song structures and presentations were too clean and careful for their goals, catering only to refined pop-punk lovers. My Score: 117/180 (Good) = 65/100

After the Party is an aptly named title of an existential album of entering a new phase of adulthood: the 30s. It's an awkward phase of feeling a need to settle and losing grasp of your peak. It's a hangover of an album for a hangover in life.

Favorite tracks: Tellin' Lies, Thick as Thieves, Lookers, Midwestern States, Black Mass, Bad Catholics, After the Party, Livin' Aint Easy

É divertido, tem seu apelo, mas é muito genérico. It's a decade that probably at least a couple twenty-somethings in the world (unnecessarily) dread: your thirties. All right, so if you're really a member of the drabble that thinks life ends after your twenty-ninth year, then you can probably stop reading this review now, because The Menzingers have entered the "Post-30 punk" club alongside Beach Slang and Japandroids with their fifth studio album, After the Party. Opening with the zinger (ha) "Tellin' Lies," the ... read more
