The 405

Their sound is assuredly vogue, they're branded flawlessly and the aura of shadows is working like a charm – this is band simply doing everything right.

DIY

They stick to the remarkably fully-formed mantra they arrived on the scene chanting. And while they could go darker, grizzlier, or even shinier, ‘I Love You’ achieves what few debuts can, by making one hell of an opening statement.

For all of its slick production value, there’s not a lot of conviction behind the songs themselves, and the lack of depth and variety is grating.

PopMatters

There are hints of greatness at times, but those hints are often masked in the excess of gargantuan production or underdevelopment.

Drowned in Sound

Lyrically inane, musically unoriginal, and carefully produced in a think-tank, they’re a marketing man’s wet dream, but they are unlikely to be yours.

I know most people think this is blend and boring and I understand, but I just like the melodies and Jesse's voice. The album sounds good and I enjoy it a lot.

It's pretty disappointing to know that one of my favorite hit songs of the decade had to come off an album I've heard maybe 200 times before.

Seriously, why can't mainstream alternative, or in this case, mainstream indie alt just sound different? Why do they all have to follow the same formula?

Overall, The Neighbourhood’s debut attempt was not bad. They really do have their own creative sound and style. However, they should expand more on these sounds and styles and, especially, lyrics.

The ideas on here, the production and atmosphere it provides is fantastic. Its just a real shame the lyrics are sometimes unbearable ("you suck anyway you make me wanna die"... Ew) and the execution could have been a lot better.

An album that is carried by one song (Sweater Weather is a certified gem)
