Signed to Arista records, the band were pressed strongly to change their sound, to the extent that drummer Butch Trucks lamented that the founder of the label, Clive Davis, ‘destroyed any hope that we had that we could make the thing work again.’ In spite of outside producers being roped in to attain greater commercial success, this eluded them as musical taste had moved on from Southern Rock.
