Well-crafted and delightfully infectious, The Courtneys II is a sequel that surpasses their already-great original.

AllMusic

They may not have broken the mold, but delivering a rock-solid album that plays well from front to back is no easy feat, and this second volume is a winner.

The Courtneys don’t do anything complicated, and they’ve barely evolved in the three years since their last album, but their formula works so well that it would be madness to change a thing.

No Ripcord

The Courtneys’ hypnotic songs sprint with gleeful release, triumphantly charging ahead with hooks and licks to spare. It’s a densely packed dose of pure gaiety that hides its complex arrangements well, seeing as the trio play against each other with emphatic ease.

Clash
A record that raises as many smiles as it does questions, The Courtneys channel more wit, fun, humour, and intelligence into ‘The Courtneys II’ than most bands manage in their entire discography. Go seek it out.

Pitchfork

Vancouver’s the Courtneys capture the shambolic spirt of New Zealand bands like the Clean and write effortlessly catchy songs about heartache and longing.

Under The Radar

The band rarely stray from their lane but the bottomless reserve of fuzz that II runs on ensures The Courtneys get to where they need to go.

PopMatters
The Courtneys have grown up, but in the tradition of many sophomore releases, it is not enough.

But I also think of 80s noise-pop from the UK when I'm listening to this - there's a bit of a Jesus & Mary Chain vibe at times. & the album's centrepiece, "Lost Boys," is a towering, near-7-minute epic of fuzzy riffage that references the cult classic film of the same name.
