CRITIC REVIEWS

AllMusic
The hour-long album is a bit excessive with some nondescript or merely passable second-half pop ballads, but it nonetheless makes good on all the promise of the mixtapes. It's destined to become a 2010s classic.
82
HipHopDX
Kehlani’s decision to provide spoonfuls of candor throughout the album is why she’ll reach the apex of R&B sooner than a lot of her contemporaries.
80
The Line of Best Fit

SweetSexySavage is a powerfully optimistic record, and while it glances back to a pop/R&B heyday, Parrish has crafted something entirely of her own, refined by a canny approach to lyricism and unbridled intimacy.

Exclaim!
These songs, which speak to a universality inherent in all humans, regardless of gender or orientation, set the stage for future projects that promise to be even more ambitious in scope and feel.
80
NME
Kehlani’s 17-track debut album establishes her as a multi-faceted talent, but it’s a bit too long.
80
The Telegraph

SweetSexySavage certainly justifies the hype. Her seductively understated blend of R’n’B and hip-hop is the zeitgeist sound of the charts, weaving pop melodies and provocative lyrics through sinuous soul grooves.

75
Entertainment Weekly

Haunting highlights like “Piece of Mind” and “Everything Is Yours” prove that beneath SSS’s padding, there’s a succinct, sassy, and sincere album waiting to be slimmed down to Kehlani’s own soul-searching essence.

70
Loud and Quiet
I like it, despite – or perhaps because of – the nostalgic feelings it stirs. It’s classic in the way Michael Jackson’s music is classic – it might have been released now, or twenty years ago, but you can still imagine teenagers getting off to it at a house party.
70
Pitchfork

Refreshingly, SweetSexySavage is at its best when it’s most exuberant, giddy in the face of haters and common sense alike.

70
The 405
Male icons like The Weeknd and Justin Bieber are often hailed for their human depiction of imperfection. Kehlani is demanding the same respect by flipping the illustration of the bad apple on its head.
70
musicOMH
There are great things going on in the world of R&B at the moment, and Kehlani looks set to be an integral part of the future, especially once she gets the chance to spread her wings even further.
70
PopMatters
Despite its flaws and unevenness, it establishes her as a remarkable artist worth following.
70
Clash
‘SweetSexySavage’ will most definitely sate the hunger of her fervent followers. It’s a glossy record that reincarnates the harmonies and textures of Brandy’s ‘Afrodisiac' and Aaliyah’s self-titled, two records in the pantheon of R&B that fused nuanced, progressive production with biting feminine confessionals.
67
Pretty Much Amazing
At times girly and others gangster, she juggles the confidence and insecurities of young-adulthood with the experience of an older soul.
60
Crack Magazine
Behind a sprinkling of indulgent auto-tune and a few tiresome epiphanic skits, we find the emotional and sonic Sweetness, the retro Aaliyah-esque Sexy and the maverick feminist Savage to complete Kehlani’s holy trinity of badassery.
60
The Observer

The singer’s debut album proper proves she has the tunes and personality to back up the notoriety.

40
The Guardian
R&B masters take solipsism and turn it into universal human drama; Kehlani, without an ounce of wordplay, merely reels off the bland injustices and generic joys of her life over humdrum production, until Keeping Up With the Kardashians starts looking like Sarah Kane in comparison.

Rememberable, iconic and relatable. It’s good RnB and her best project with piece of mind getting me through high school lol

Kehlani uses skits, sexy vibes, and confident affirmations to paint her versatility as a lover and person. "Get Like" shows her magnetic attraction that she has with her lover who brings out a different, sweet side that she enjoys. "Too Much" embraces the idea that she may be too much for others but will always be enough for herself. There are several gems on this album. Kehlani ... read more

"SweetSexySavage" is too long and there are some fillers, but it's a great R&B album. It's probably a 2010s classic. At least, for me.

Kehlani tem ótimos refrões pop-ish. Porém, em algumas músicas peca em questão de versos e refrão. Outras são simplesmente imemoráveis num álbum tão gigante. Mas para um álbum de estreia, é bem bom.
